The high school years are a formative time in a young person's life. The transition is being made from late childhood to early adolescence. A young person experiences changes in five major areas of his/her life, i.e. intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional, and physical. Our purpose is to meet all of the students' needs and develop a holistic child. The school environment is one in which early adolescents should feel comfortable. The Care Team, along with the Management Team and staff, will seek to provide an atmosphere of nurturing and understanding. At the same time, students are encouraged to take more responsibility in the form of accountability, self-discipline, and planning. The St. Dominic High IB World School will provide opportunities for students to achieve academic success and to mature in an atmosphere of Christian morals and ideals and the school values of knowledge, respect, and creativity.
While students may struggle to perform academically, there could be underlying issues that contribute to lack of or poor performance. At the St. Dominic High - IB World School our vision of care is ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. The approach of the Care Team is based on didactical and pedagogical evidence-based theory and approaches to learning, supported by the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic faith. These beliefs begin with the recognition of the infinite worth of each individual and seeing the value of every person in honor and respect of their uniqueness. This includes the academic process, social emotional development of each student, and the wellbeing of all students and staff members.
The school counselors provide social-emotional and psychosocial interventions. The school counselor also refers students for further psycho-educational testing. Students, Parents and School Coordinators can submit a referral form to the counselor.
The career counselor plays a multifaceted role in guiding students through their career development and decision-making processes. The career counselor assists students in exploring their interests, skills, values, and goals to identify suitable career paths and make informed career-related decisions
The coordinator at the St. Dominic High - IB World School deals with the daily activities relating to students. The coordinator observes students' behaviors, academics, challenges, etc. With the help of the relevant stakeholders, such as (homeroom) teachers, parents/guardians, guidance counselor, career counselor, secretary, school manager, the Ministry of Education, etc., the coordinator makes decisions regarding each individual student’s situation.
